How to read a "Call Number" & locate the item

How to read a "Call Number"

Answer

The University Libraries use Library of Congress (LC) Call Numbers to arrange the books on the shelves. LC call numbers contain both letters and numbers. They are first filed alphabetically (by letter) and then numerically (by number).

Click on the "Map It" button in under the call number to pull up a map of where the item is located in the library.

The call numbers below are in the correct order so you can see how the LC call numbers work. Be sure to pay attention to the decimal when reading and looking for call numbers.

If you find an item in the catalog that says "Reserves" they are likely available at the MRR desk. To learn more about Reserves, go to  http://library.csueastbay.edu/usingthelibraries/course-reserves
